This virgin mojito recipe has fresh mint, granulated sugar, fresh lime juice, and is topped off with an extra fizzy mineral water. It makes the perfect drink for a hot summer day, but is a delicious drink any time of year! It can be enjoyed anytime since it's a non-alcoholic cocktail!

    The best virgin mojito!

A traditional mojito is a classic cocktail made with white rum, but this mojito mocktail version is made alcohol free so you can enjoy it anytime. With all the muddled mint they are not only refreshing, but beautiful drinks!

As more people search for non-alcoholic versions of their favorite cocktails, mocktails have become more and more popular! Some of my favorites are Pineapple Ginger Beer Mocktail, Mint and Ginger Lemonade, Strawberry Agua Fresca, and this fizzy Virgin Mojito!

    Why this recipe works

    • Super simple to make so you can whip one up anytime.
    • Made with only a few fresh and simple ingredients.
    • Easy to customize with different flavors. Add in fresh fruit puree or your favorite liquor to make it a cocktail.
    • Made with no alcohol so it can be enjoyed anytime with the whole family!

    Ingredients

bowl of lime wedges, bowl of fresh mint leaves, a bowl of sugar and a pyrex glass of club soda.
    • Club soda - Club soda is a carbonated mineral water. I really love using the brand Topo Chico because it is extra fizzy and has a great taste. You can use sparkling water, soda water, seltzer, or sparkling lime water. You can even use ginger beer or ginger ale for some added flavor.
    • Fresh Lime - Adds some acidity to balance the sweetness. Change it up for other citrus fruits for a refreshing twist.
    • Fresh mint leaves - Make sure to wash them thoroughly. You can substitute for fresh basil for a twist on this classic mojito mocktail.
    • Granulated sugar - Adds sweetness and that delicious sugary crunch. You can substitute for your sweetener of choice like simple syrup, honey, or agave.

    Variations

    • Make it fruity. Add in fresh fruits like strawberries or blackberries, or add in fresh fruit juice like Ginger Juice,  Kiwi Juice, or Grapefruit Orange Juice.  I personally like adding fresh strawberries to muddle with the lime to make a strawberry mojito mocktail.
    • Make it spicy. Add a few slices of fresh jalapeño to make a spicy mojito.
    • Change up the herbs. Swap out mint for another fresh herb like basil.
    • Make it extra refreshing. Add a few chunks of cucumber to make this an even more refreshing drink.
    • More or less sweet. Adjust the amount of sugar to suit your tastes. You can also substitute for a natural sweetener like agave.

    Expert Tips

    • If you don’t have a muddler, you can use the end of a wooden spoon.
    • Don’t skip muddling! It will release the juices and oils of the lime and mint, giving it extra flavor and aroma. You won’t get the same result by shaking or stirring.
    • If your limes aren’t very juicy, add a teaspoon of warm water to help muddle the sugar.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is a mocktail mojito made of?

A virgin, or mocktail mojito has fresh limes, mint, granulated sugar and club soda.

Do I have to use granulated sugar in a mojito?

No, you don’t have to use granulated sugar, but I highly suggest it! The best part of a mojito is the crunch from granulated sugar. You can substitute for simple syrup, honey, or agave syrup.

What do I use instead of rum in a mocktail mojito?

You can always use a non-alcoholic rum substitute, or swap for only club soda (my preference).
