An Oat Milk London Fog is a creamy oat milk latte made with earl gray tea and a touch of sweetness. It’s a delicious tea latte for a cozy drink! (Dairy-free)
If you're like me, you have a soft spot for irresistible warm drinks that are deliciously flavored and creamy – yup, I'm talking about oat milk lattes. Enter the classic London Fog tea latte: a blend of Earl grey tea, milk and a little vanilla sweetness.
This healthier version is taken up a notch by using dairy-free milk (oat milk), which I love because it’s a creamy dairy-free alternative that complements itself well in a tea-based latte.

Why this recipe works

- Flavorful: Earl gray tea typically includes notes of lavender, bergamot, and black tea, making it a delicious base for a latte.
- Dairy Free
What is a London Fog Tea Latte?
So what even is a London Fog Tea Latte? Well as crazy as it is to imagine, you can actually make lattes from non-coffee!
An oat milk London fog is the same thing as an Earl gray latte. It's slightly sweet, all the way creamy, and absolutely delicious! It consists of Earl gray tea bags, hot water, oat milk (or non-dairy milk), and sweetener.
Ingredients
Water
Earl Grey Tea Bag - Substitute for your favorite black tea.
Oat Milk - I personally love using oat milk for all of my warm drinks because it’s the creamiest and thickest non-dairy milk, and it froths the best. Substitute for your favorite non-dairy milk.
Sweetener - Use maple syrup, honey or coconut sugar.
Optional: Add vanilla extract to add a little extra vanilla flavor. You can also use vanilla syrup.

Instructions
Warm Milk
Warm oat milk and maple syrup in a pot on the stove over medium heat.
Steep Tea
Meanwhile, steep Earl gray tea in boiling water for 3-5 minutes. Be careful not to over-steep.
Froth
Froth the oat milk. There are 8 ways to froth oat milk.
Combine
Remove the earl grey tea bag from your cup and pour the frothed oat milk and syrup mixture into the cup. Spoon the foam on top of the mixture.
How to Serve
This London fog with oat milk should be served either hot or cold.
If you want an additional garnish to this oat milk latte, you can try a sprinkle of lavender buds on top of the frothed milk. You may often see the dried lavender because Starbucks uses Teavana’s Earl Grey Tea, infusing black tea with bergamot and lavender.

Make it Iced
To make an iced London fog tea latte, only a few quick steps make it possible:
- Brew: brew the earl gray tea in hot, boiling water for a few minutes (check tea bag recommendations so as to not over-steep)
- Remove bags and chill: remove the tea bags from the water and allow the tea to cool. You can place the tea in the fridge if you have time.
- Add ice: Add ice to a tall glass.
- Serve: Pour the cool earl gray tea into the glass with ice and gently pour cold oat milk over the tea.
Variations
Decaf: There are plenty of decaf Earl gray teas on the market. Simply swap out the caffeinated Earl gray tea for the decaf version and you’re set!
Spices: While a London fog latte is great as is, there are plenty of additional spices you can add to the latte to enhance the flavor. Try nutmeg, cardamom or ginger to start!
Extra Lavender: Purchase culinary-grade dried lavender buds and infuse them into the latte while steeping the tea. Start with ½ teaspoon and experiment with more or less depending on your preference.
Refined Sugar Free: Make sure to use coconut sugar, honey or maple syrup as the sweetener.
Vegan: This London fog tea latte is vegan as written, but make sure to use dairy-free milk (as suggested), and use any of the suggested sweetener options (except honey).
Expert Tips
Avoid Curdling:
Be careful not to bring the chai to a boil or it will curdle. To avoid this, heat the milk until it starts to steam and then turn it off.
Don’t Oversteep:
Earl Grey tea can become quite bitter in taste when you oversteep. Be mindful of the recommendations for steeping time given by the specific brand of tea you use.
Frothing Oat Milk:
We all love that beautiful foam on the top of a simple yet elegant Earl Grey tea latte. However, frothing oat milk can be slightly complicated, even if it is the most similar in frothing to dairy milk.
Start with a frother or steam wand, but you can also try frothing oat milk in a blender or shaking it in a closed container or jar (not while scalding hot!).

Storage and Reheating:
Storage: leftovers can be stored in an airtight container or jar and refrigerated for up to 5 days.
Make Ahead: Make the Earl Gray tea latte up to a few days ahead, refrigerate and reheat when ready to serve. Make or add any toppings right before serving.
Reheat: Pour the oat milk London fog latte into a sauce pot or pan and reheat over medium-heat until heated through completely. Don’t let the milk come to a boil but let it gently warm, as some milks (dairy or non-dairy) can curdle or separate.
