Ingredients

Turkey burger patties

  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil divided, can substitute for olive oil
  • ½ cup yellow onion finely chopped (about ½ medium yellow onion)
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pound ground turkey breast
  • 1 egg
  • cup gluten free bread crumbs
  • ½ cup finely grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley can substitute 1 tablespoon dried parsley if desired
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¾ teaspoon coarse Kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

For the burgers

  • Gluten-free hamburger buns
  • Lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, cheese, optional toppings

Instructions

  • Heat 1 tablespoon avocado oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion, and cook 3-4 minutes, or until slightly translucent and crisp-tender. Add the garlic, and cook 1-2 more minutes, or until the garlic is fragrant and lightly browned. Remove the mixture from the heat, and let cool slightly.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together ground turkey breast, sautéed onions and garlic, egg, bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, fresh parsley, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  • Divide the mixture into 4 - 6 ounce patties or 6 - 4 ounce patties. Heat the remaining oil in a non-stick skillet. Add the patties to the pan, and cook for 6-8 minutes on each side, or until the patties reach 165°F.
  • If needed, work in batches, until all patties are cooked through. Serve on your favorite gluten free buns!

Notes

  • You can place your formed turkey patties on squares of parchment paper to make transferring to the skillet easier.
  • Work in batches while cooking the turkey burgers if needed.
  • Use an instant read thermometer to check for doneness.
  • IF YOU CANNOT FIND GLUTEN FREE BREAD CRUMBS:
Gluten free bread crumbs are pretty widely available in most grocery stores, but if you cannot find them in yours, simply toast 2-3 pieces of your favorite gluten free bread, tear into pieces, and place in the food processor. Puree until crumbly.
  • If desired, you may substitute ¾ teaspoon garlic powder and ¼ teaspoon onion powder for the fresh onion and garlic. Omit the step of cooking the onion and garlic.
  • Storage: Store leftover burgers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 2-3 days.
  • Reheating: Reheat patties in the microwave or in a skillet until warmed through.
