Ingredients

  • 2 cups strawberries fresh or frozen
  • 4 cups water
  • cup sweetener See note

Instructions

  • Blend all ingredients together in a high-powered blender, until smooth.
  • Strain into a large measuring cup or bowl.
  • Drink immediately or store in the refrigerator for 2-4 hours before serving over ice.

Notes

Sweetener: Traditional aguas frescas use granulated sugar as sweetener. As a substitute I typically use honey, agave nectar or maple syrup for healthier options. You can also use coconut sugar, granulated sugar, or monk fruit sweetener! Note that all sweeteners have a slightly different taste and therefore will change the taste of the agua fresca slightly. If your strawberries are especially naturally sweet, you may not even need to use sweetener at all!
To remove the stem or not: You don’t need to remove the stems of the strawberries prior to blending. It does, however, make the process a little easier for straining.
Storage directions: Store leftovers in the refrigerator for 2-3 days, but this drink is best served fresh. If you won’t use it all in the next few days, you can pour it into ice cube trays and freeze for a few months. Once frozen, transfer the cubes to an airtight container.
